Wisconsin Race for Senator

Russ Feingold (democrat)— He follows in the long progressive Wisconsin traditions of open government, fighting for families and fiscal responsibility. Russ has over 1,200 town hall meetings for people to come and talk about issues with him; this is the foundation and driving force behind Russ’s bipartisan legislative agenda. He wants to cut wasteful spending. He is best known for leading the fight for campaign finance reform in the senate with John McCain. He has worked on efforts to reform the health care system and give states the power and resources to ensure that all of their citizens have affordable health care coverage. He is a member of the Intelligence Committee and the Foreign Relations Subcommittee; he brings a crucial focus to the fight against terrorism. He has fought against many different types of discrimination so that all Americans are equal under the law.

  • Health Care: Feingold thinks that every American deserves decent, affordable health care coverage. He agrees with the healthcare bill passed by congress and Obama. He thinks that the bill provides more competition and accountability for health insurance companies. He also thinks that it lets families be in control of their health, not the insurance companies.

  • Immigration Laws: Feingold believes we need to institute programs to allow previously undocumented workers who are contributing productively to our nation, have paid their taxes, and are willing to wait at the back of the line to earn permanent legal status. Feingold has consistently supported measures that would effectively secure the border, such as increasing the number of border patrol agents and using modern technology to prevent people from entering the country without authorization. Feingold supports ICE’s decision to focus its enforcement efforts on locating and removing dangerous criminal aliens and drug traffickers. The Democratic Party supports the improvement of security at our borders. However, when it comes to amnesty and eventual legalization of illegal aliens, the Democratic Party is in favor of it, especially those who clear a background check, work hard, and pay taxes. They should have a path to earn full participation in America.

  • Social Issues: Feingold believes the rights of all individuals should be vigorously upheld regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, or sexual orientation. Feingold's views go hand in hand with those of the Democratic Party. They believe in gay marriage and they believe that people should not be judged or discriminated against because of race, religion, gender, etc.

Wisconsin-U.S.-Senate-Candidate-Ron-Johnson.jpg

Ron Johnson (republican)— He is a supporter of the right to bear arms. Ron believes that we in order to reduce spending, we need to reduce the size of the government. Ron wants to reduce and simplify taxes and regulations on business. Small businesses have too many taxes and regulation. Ron wants to repeal the health care bill and replace it with market-based solutions, such as portability, reform, and mandate reduction. Ron wants to increase the production of oil, clean coal, natural gas and nuclear energy. He wants maintain a clean and healthy environment. He prides himself on his work ethic, and that he has a business.

  • Health Care: Johnson thinks that Obama’s health care bill is an assault on our freedom, and the bill should be repealed. He thinks that the bill should be replaced with a market-based solution because a free market based health care reform is crucial to ensuring doctors and patients stay in control of the decision-making process. The free market is also essential for the development of new drugs, treatments and medical procedures that will save lives. His views match those in the GOP platform.

  • Immigration Laws: Johnson believes the federal government has failed to enforce current immigration laws and tighten our borders to stop the flow of illegal immigration. Johnson also supports REAL ID, requiring employers to verify the Social Security numbers of potential employees. Ron supports providing law enforcement the necessary tools, such as the Patriot Act, to protect our country. Businesses or employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants should be penalized and we should take steps to prevent abuse or exploitation of workers due to their immigration status. The Republican Party is for stricter laws on immigration, including increased sanctions for illegal entry and knowingly hiring an illegal alien, as well as enhanced border security and the exclusion of amnesty to any illegal non-citizen.

  • Social Issues: Johnson is pro-life, pro-family, and believes that freedom of religion doesn’t mean freedom from religion. Johnson has the same views as most Republicans. He is against abortion, and does not support gay marriage. He is also religious, and believes that everyone should follow some sort of religion as well. He is very traditional.

It seems like Ron Johnson is going to beat out Russ Feingold. Feingold still has a change at pulling through and earning more votes in time for elections, and i hope he does. But Johnson has been slowly getting more percentage of the voters.

A lot of the news stories that I've seen about this race are focused on the fact that Feingold has been in the Senate position three times, and Johnson has no experience; he is a businessman. Depending on the website is what determined the focus. The more liberal and democratic websites focused on Johnson not being experienced enough. More conservative and republican websites focused on how Feingold has been in office three times and he's not doing a good job; it's time for someone new.

Ron Johnson beat Russ Feingold in the race for Senate. He is the first republican elected senate in 18 years. I think this is because he is trying to fix the health care reform, and he was a businessman and said that he knew what it took to create jobs. I think people in Wisconsin are not happy with how the country is being ran, and they want change from a liberal democrat. I think its a mistake.
